Preparation Hints
The absolute best advice that I can give you for preparing for this exam is to beware of Microsoft’s classroom training. Microsoft recommends that you take course 5061A (Implementing Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007) in preparation for this exam. However, the general consensus seems to be that course 5061A does not cover everything that you need to know in order to pass exam 70-630.
Before you take course 5061A, I recommend taking Course 5060A (Implementing Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services). Although this course is not technically a prerequisite to 5061A, it will give you a good foundation that will help you to pass the exam.
I also recommend that you take the relative weight of the exam objectives into consideration when preparing for the exam. This particular exam has seven different domains. At first glance, these domains would seem to be created equally. For example, there are three domains that include four objectives and three domains that include five objectives. Even so, just because two domains have the same number of objectives does not mean that those domains are scored evenly. In some cases, a domain with fewer objectives can carry a higher relative weight.
To give you a more concrete example, Deploying or Upgrading Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 has five objectives, but only caries a relative weight of ten percent. In contrast, Managing Search only has three objectives, but has a relative weight of sixteen percent. You should focus your studies on the areas with the highest relative weights since those are the areas that have the biggest impact on your exam score.
