Cisco CCNP Security: Cisco ASA Firewall Modes
Presented by Anthony Sequeira, CCIE FREE Archive Available Now
The Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) is an extremely adaptive device as its name implies. This presentation explores the guidelines and configurations of deploying your firewall in the two different modes that are offered. These modes are Routed mode and Transparent mode. In Routed mode, the device is a Layer 3 device and offers many of the same capabilities as a Cisco router. In Transparent mode, the ASA is a “bump in the wire” and acts mode like a Layer 2 switch. This is convenient as no new network numbering needs to be introduced and the firewall is very transparent on the network (thus the name). In this session, Anthony Sequeira, expert trainer and co-author of the CCNP Security FIREWALL 642-617 Official Cert Guide, discusses the deployment of the Cisco ASA firewall in both Routed and Transparent mode, presenting key information about considerations and caveats for these deployments.
