Preparation Hints
Preparing for Exam 70-681 can be especially tricky because there are few reputable study resources available. In fact, if you look at the Preparation Materials section for this exam in Microsoft’s training catalog you will see that Microsoft literally offers no preparation resources. This means that there is no classroom training, E-learning, Microsoft Press books, or practice tests. You are essentially on your own to find study materials from third party sources (one source is listed in the next section).
Although you can earn a certification by passing Exam 70-681, this exam also counts as an elective for the Microsoft Certified IT Professional, Enterprise Administrator certification. If you are working toward this certification, you should take exam 70-643 prior to taking exam 70-681.
The reason for this recommendation is that Exam 70-643 (TS: Windows Server 2008 Application Infrastructure, Configuring) contains a lot of material that overlaps with Exam 70-681. This is particularly true of the subject matter dealing with creating and maintaining deployment images.
There are numerous preparation resources available for exam 70-643, but few are available for exam 70-681. Therefore, those who plan on taking exam 70-681 will likely have an easier time with the exam if they take exam 70-643 first because they will have already learned much of the exam material prior to beginning to study for the exam. This can be especially helpful given the limited study resources that are available for this exam.
