Where to Go from Here

It is important to build a list of reference and support documents as you prepare for the exam. Compile a list of bookmarks for important online pages and supplement these with reference books and lab guides. It is very helpful to become familiar with the forums and blogs mentioned above, often participants are very candid in their comments and experiences.

Next, have a clear plan for your hands-on lab practice regimen. Will you be compiling your own rack of equipment or looking to rent time? Another option could be to attend a boot-camp style training course at a CCIE training provider. Preparation for the lab exam will require hundreds or hours of study. Make sure you take relaxation and personal time to avoid burnout. Compile a daily or weekly schedule of study hours, topics to work on and goals to be achieved so you can feel tangible progress and achievement during the study process. Make notes as you read or use your equipment on things that require additional reading or clarification.

Remember, you are expected to have solid internetworking skills. The exam is security focused, but in order to make the best use of time during the lab exam, understand how to interpret network diagrams, understand how to access devices and use networking utilities on PC’s like SSH and telnet.
