While for many IPv6 remains a distant concern, it should be noted that in the near future (less than five years), it is predicted that IPv4 space will be exhausted and IPv6 as the alternative will need to be implemented on a much wider scale. Now it is true that some of this may not affect the common user for a number of years, it will however affect the network engineer working with devices that access the Internet. If you are in or trying to get in to the networking field, take the time to brush up on at least the basics of IPv6 so that you are prepared when you see it in the field.
