Exam Prep Tips

Here are quick tips to help you excel in your exams.

Exams S90.01, S90.03, S90.04, and S90.06 are hour long exams that consist of multiple-choice questions. Exam S90.07 is a two hour lab exam comprised of questions with complex problems for you to solve. Each lab question has a background scenario and a problem statement that first must be analyzed in order to determine the correct solution.

To prepare for these exams, it is best to attend an instructor-led workshop or purchase Self-Study Kits from SOASchool.com. The kits include Self-Study Guides, Flashcards, and Audio Tutor CDs that supplement the Course Module Booklets. These supplements can be beneficial in providing further resources specifically for exam preparation. Studying sample questions from the Self-Study Guide especially enables you to get a preview of how the Prometric exam questions will be structured. By memorizing the flashcards, you can enhance your ability to recall larger bits of information referenced by the triggers. And, the Audio Tutor CDs are an effective study aid that provides guidance from actual Certified SOA Trainers.

The key to being prepared for exams is in understanding how all the parts of the SOA Analyst curriculum relate and work with each other. Pinpoint key terms and concepts and make sure you understand them. Knowing the course material is necessary but not sufficient to guarantee success on the exam. You also need to be able to communicate the answers effectively under exam conditions. Remember, people respond to different learning styles, so use what works for you.
