Core i3 Mobile Processor Family

The Core i3 Mobile processor family, new in 2010, differs from the Core i5 Mobile processor family in two ways: slower maximum clock speeds and no support for Turbo Boost overclocking. Its major features include the following:

  • Two processor cores
  • 3MB intelligent cache memory
  • PCI Express 2.0 support

  • Integrated memory controller supporting two channels of DDR3 memory

Core 2 Mobile FamilyAs with their desktop processor counterparts, the Core 2 family includes dual-core and quad-core processors.

Core 2 Extreme Mobile Processors

Core 2 Extreme Mobile processors are available in three series: the quad-core QX9000 series and the dual-core X9000 and X7000 series. The following sections discuss the major features of each series.

Core 2 Extreme Mobile Processor QX9000 Series

The Core 2 Extreme Mobile Processor QX9000 series was Intel's fastest series of mobile processors until the advent of the Core i7 family. It includes the following major features:

  • Four processor cores
  • 12MB L2 cache
  • Intel VT-x virtualization support
  • Supports 64-bit operating systems and applications
  • 1066MHz front side bus
  • Based on "Penryn" architecture

Core 2 Extreme Processor X9000 Series

The Core 2 Extreme Processor X9000 series features a smaller cache size and a lower range of clock speeds than the QX9000 series. Major features include the following:

  • 6MB L2 cache
  • Intel VT-x virtualization support
  • Supports 64-bit operating systems and applications
  • 1066MHz front side bus
  • Based on "Penryn" architecture

Core 2 Extreme Mobile Processor X7000 Series

  • This processor "series" of one was the first Extreme processor in the Core 2 family, and as such has much more in common with Core 2 Duo E6000 series than the other processors discussed above. Its major features include the following:
  • Two processor cores
  • 4MB L2 cache
  • Intel VT-x support
  • Supports 64-bit operating systems and applications
  • Based on "Merom" architecture

Core 2 Quad Mobile Processors

Core 2 Quad processors are currently available in the Q9000 series. Their major features are described in the following sections.

Core 2 Quad Processor Q9000 Series

The Core 2 Quad Processor Q9000 series is based on the Core 2 Quad Extreme Processor QX9000 series, but with slower clock speeds; some also feature a smaller memory cache. Major features include the following:

  • Four processor cores
  • 6MB or 12MB L2 cache (varies by model)
  • Intel VT-x support
  • Supports 64-bit operating systems and applications
  • 1066MHz front side bus
  • Based on "Penryn" architecture

Core 2 Duo Mobile Processor

The Core 2 Duo processors were the first members of the Core 2 family and are available in more than five dozen models. Core 2 Duo processors are available in fourteen (!) series: T9000, T8000, T7000, T6000, T5000, T4000, L7000, P7000, P8000, P9000, SL9000, SP9000, SU9000, and U7000. Their major features are described in the following sections.

Core 2 Duo Processor T9000 Series

The Core 2 Duo T9000 processor series is the fastest of the Core 2 Duo mobile series. It has the following major features:

  • Two processor cores
  • 6MB L2 cache
  • Intel VT-x support
  • Supports 64-bit operating systems and applications
  • 1066MHz or 800MHz front side bus
  • 34[nd]35 watts Max TDP
  • Based on "Penryn" architecture

Core 2 Duo Processor P9000 Series

Core 2 Duo Processor SL9000 Series
